VINTAGE 2019
From: Châteauneuf-du-Pape, France
Varietal: GSM
Châteauneuf-du-Pape is the name of a wine-growing region in the Southern Rhône Valley, pretty close to Provence. The word itself means "the pope's new castle." When you hear people refer to the title, this indicates both a style of wine and its region.
Fun fact, it was the first French wine appellation, officially designated in 1936. And, just like the ubiquitous Champagne saying, it's not Châteauneuf-du-Pape unless it comes from Châteauneuf-du-Pape (hence all the GSM references we see today).
Grenache dominates the red blends of the area, often completed with Syrah and Mourvèdre. In particular, these wines are beloved because of their power, ebullient fruit, and spice juxtaposed with an age-worthy character that quickly rewards in a decanter (even now, in its youth).
Tasting Notes: Saint-Galet is every Chateauneuf lovers’ dream: sappy, dark, gutsy fruit, that garrigue-y smell of the hot Mistral blowing through the vineyards and a nice long finish that goes on and on!
Pairing: For everyday life, these wines work their magic throughout all seasons. In summer, Châteauneuf-du-Pape shines alongside BBQ and anything off the grill. During colder times of the year, these wines warm you from the inside out. They're magical next to braises, slow-cooked stews, and a warm fire.
