History
First of all, the history of this very old Sauternes terroir, among the greatest in Bordeaux, is only very recently linked to Clos des Lunes. It is with the 2012 vintage that the birth certificate of Clos des Lunes is truly signed by Olivier Bernard and the Domaine de Chevalier team. This new brand comes from an exceptional terroir located between Châteux d'Yquem and Guiraud. These soils are not only known to be able to produce the greatest Sauternes but also very great dry white wines. Their study also shows that we can produce even bigger ones here than on the soil of the prestigious Pessac Léognan. The Clos des Lunes range consists of 3 white wines .

Terroir
This terroir of Clos des Lunes is a magnificent hilly vineyard planted with old Sémillons and Sauvignon Blancs. The area is 33 hectares where 70% Sémillon and 30% Sauvignon Blanc are planted . In addition, the average age of the vineyard is 30 years. The vines come from two complementary terroirs: the Sauternes terroir composed of deep gravel with underground springs which brings power to the wine and the Bommes terroir composed of gravel soils on clay-limestone substrate which brings freshness to wine.

Winemaking
First, the grapes are picked by hand at perfect maturity and selected to produce the Clos des Lunes – Lune Blanche. A slow pneumatic pressing without destemming and without maceration, carried out by two presses from the Domaine de Chevalier, allows an adjusted sequencing. Then, the settling is done naturally by gravity, in a cold room, and the wine then undergoes regular stirring on the lees. All the techniques applied to Clos des Lunes come from the Domaine de Chevalier, ensuring the new vintages an increased quality based on experience. Finally, the aging takes place in small thermo-regulated vats for 6 months.

Tasting
At the tasting, the Clos des Lunes – Lune Blanche first offers a luminous light yellow color with pale green reflections. Then, the nose is pure and intense of vine peach accompanied by acacia flower. Then, the mouth is generous, straight and of good tension. In addition, the mineral salinity gives balance and immediate pleasure. Finally, a nice general freshness for this gourmet wine.
